Mascot's fate in the balance!

Hands up Bobby Badger... your days at Stafford Rangers may be numbered!

Despite his long and loyal service at the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club's Marston Road, officials have decided to ask fans, and their younger supporters in particular, whether it's time for a change.

As part of a new competition launched this week, fans are being polled on whether their pitchside hero simply needs a makeover and new kit or his marching orders in favour a new mascot representing the Premier Division outfit's famous black and white colours.

Bobby Badger still has his fans but a panda, a zebra or even a cow are already being considered and Rangers are asking their younger supporters to email in their feedback and ideas, including a name and drawing, before coming to a decision over Bobby's fate.

Commercial Manager Stuart Maun said the competition's winner will be the club's guest of honour at the unveiling of a rejuvenated Bobby or new mascot.

Maun said: "Many will know that Bobby the Badger has been our team mascot for some years and he's been involved in many events - at the ground, in the town, and locally with schools and fundraising events. We all know it’s great to have a mascot - but the big question is - is it time for a change?

"We want our younger Boro fans and Staffordians to get involved and have a chance of having a say as to whether we should change our mascot and if so, to what?"
