Matlock bolster attacking options

Matlock Town have announced the signing of striker Harry Wakefield from United Counties League Premier Division North side Anstey Nomads.

Wakefield, 23, has been prolific in front of goal for Anstey this season, scoring 14 times.

The striker links back up with Gladiators boss Mark Carruthers, with Wakefield having been a Basford United first team graduate during Carruthers' tenure as manager.

Before joining Anstey, he has featured for Nuneaton Borough, Ilkeston Town and Shepshed Dynamo.

On his new addition, Gladiators' boss Mark Carruthers said: "He’s a big and powerful 6’2” striker, he’s hard working and also a great lad, he’s just what we need at the moment.

"He’ll win his headers and provide that power and strength we need in the final third so I’m delighted to bring him to the club."

Wakefield is in contention for Tuesday's fixture at home against Guiseley, subject to FA and NPL approval.
