Meakin told to keep breaking records

Hot-shot Carlos Meakin has been told to go and score another double century of goals after notching up his 200th strike for the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's New Mills.

Meakin, pictured, found the net again in the 3-3 First Division North daw at Mossley on Saturday. Since arriving at Church Lane in 2006 from Woodley Sports, the striker has top scored for the club in seven consecutive seasons, netting 10 hat-tricks in the process.

His goal at the weekend lifts him to fourth in the club's all time list of leading scorers behind Barry Welsh, who tops the charts with 235, Dave McGuinness and Alan Dodgson.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed by the club's grateful fans and other clubs. In the summer he switched briefly to Premier Division Nantwich before returning. Millers Secretary and spokesman Duncan Hibbert hailed their leading marksman who has carried on where he left off since re-joining Roy Soules' squad.

He said: "Congratulations to Carlos Meakin who brought up his double century of goals for the club in all competitions with an instinctive effort from within the six yard box against Mossley.

"He has proved to be an inspirational signing. It was an indication of things to come when he celebrated his debut in the perfect manner by scoring a twenty five yarder to seal a 2-1 North West Counties Football League triumph over Padiham at Church Lane. Cheers Carlos, here's to the next 200!"

Meakin's strike rate helped fire the Millers into the Evo-Stik NPL. He has a full compliment of North West Counties Football League honours to show for it after winning the Division One Trophy in 2007, Division One Championship in 2008, the Vodkat League Cup in 2009 and the Premier Division title in 2011.
