Media maestro needs successor

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League leaders Blyth Spartans have been forced to start looking for a successor to long-serving media manager and mentor Phil Castiaux.

With his work commitments increasing, the Spartans volunteer is standing down at the end of the current campaign after presiding over the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club’s press and media operations for more than 20 years and overseeing major changes for their worldwide following including the launch of Blyth Spartans TV, live internet radio commentary and Facebook and Twitter feeds.

A Spartans supporter for nearly 60 years, Castiaux has dedicated more than half of that time volunteering at Croft Park and is currently the longest serving official at the club. Under his guidance, numerous members of the media team have progressed to full-time employment with the likes of West Ham, Liverpool and Gateshead, the latest in January securing a job at the FA Football Museum in Manchester.

The Spartans are now inviting potential successors to step forward to pick up the baton from Castiaux, pictured collecting an inscribed glass trophy to mark his long service. Candidates should contact general manager and secretary Ian Evans who is also stepping down at the end of the season and handing over his duties to Anthony Seghini while staying on as a member of the board.

Evans is hoping to hear from suitable qualified candidates as soon as possible and a spokesman said: "The club is looking for someone with a general interest in football and some experience of modern journalism. The position is voluntary and full support will be given by the executive committee.

"Blyth Spartans currently has several members in its media team and the new appointment would coordinate all media operations – as well as being responsible for issuing all formal club press announcements. The position would also require attendance at both home and away matches."

For more information and to apply, contact general manager Evans at: generalmanager@blythspartans.com.
