Milestone approaches for Coles Lane

100th game to be played on 3G surface

It is not quite four months since the installation of the 3g pitch at Sutton Coldfield Town’s Coles Lane ground and they are already approaching the 100th game to be played on the pitch.

“Moving to an artificial surface was a bold move for us” said Nick Thurston, Director SCTFC, “but the decision we made is proving to be absolutely the right one for our club. We are making huge demands of the surface with new relationships in place with the local college and community with many other local football clubs making use of the pitch for training and games. We simply could not have done this with a natural grass pitch”.

The pitch was recently host to some special overseas visitors.

Birmingham Metropolitan Sports Academy, who are regular users of the 3g pitch installed in the summer at Coles Lane, hosted a 12 strong coaching contingent from the Swedish FA.

The College were chosen for the visit alongside Manchester United FC, West Bromwich Albion FC, Birmingham University and Tottenham Hotspur FC.

The Coaches visited the Sports Resources at the Sutton Coldfield Campus and met with several BMETC staff before observing several coaching and conditioning sessions for players on the Women's and Men's Football Academies.

Without the concerns of overuse of a grass pitch, the Royals have been able to hold events that they would not previously have considered at this time of year, such as charity games and school competitions. They will also host a soccer and dance camp for children aged 6-14 during the week beginning 19th December. Please contact Tony on 07817 453041 for full details.
