Milestone memento for number two

By David Watters

Stalwart striker and assistant manager Rob Hopley has added another memento to his collection of honours and awards with EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Colwyn Bay.

Hopley is pictured on Tuesday night before kick off against Workington collecting a framed inscribed certificate congratulating on scoring his 100th goal for the Seagulls from vice-chairman Kurtis Chapman.

Now in his eighth season with the North Wales club, having helped them to two promotions in that time, Hopley netted the milestone goal in their 3-2 defeat in the top flight at Nantwich Town.

Hopley kicked off his career at Macclesfield Town before signing for Winsford United where he was top scorer in their North West Counties League championship winning side.

Former Bay manager Steve Pope beat off competition from a number of clubs to sign him from Leek Town and after years of loyal service at Llanelian Road, broken only by a short spell with Chester, the 30-year-old was appointed assistant manager by boss Ash Hoskin at the start of the season.

To help Hoskin cope with a number of injuries, the hot-shot has recently had to switch from attacker to a central defensive role at the struggling Seagulls.
