Millers make peace over Hawkridge

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Carlton Town are looking forward to hosting both Scunthorpe United and Gainsborough Trinity in pre-season friendlies next summer after settling their dispute over the transfer of former Millers star Terry Hawkridge.

The 23-year-old winger left the First Division South club more than a year ago to join Conference North Trinity and won his chance to play in the Football League with League Two Scunthorpe under manager Brians Laws this summer.

The Millers were expecting a slice of any transfer fee after inserting a sell-on clause in the deal that took him to Trinity but lost out when when Hawkridge and team-mate Luke Waterfall switched to Glanford Park as no fees were paid.

While still disappointed on missing out on an expected windfall, Millers Chairman Mick Garton has now accepted the situation after receiving correspondence from both clubs confirming that no fees had been paid and offering to send sides to Stoke Lane next year.

Garton said: "We accept the situation for what it is. We were most surprised and obviously extremely disappointed when we heard that there was no fee but after all the press coverage the two clubs have been in touch with us and we can confirm that we will be playing both teams in pre-season friendlies in 2014 which will obviously provide a financial benefit for us."

The Millers Chairman added: "We wish Terry all the very best. He still comes down to watch Carlton when he can and we hope we can help produce more players of his quality in the future. We thank Scunthorpe and Gainsborough for their recent correspondence and look forward to meeting them both next summer."
