Monday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

The only game in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division South on Monday night saw Basford United move into the top five after edging a best-of-five encounter at Greenwich Avenue against Stamford AFC, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

It certainly looked as though Stamford had their minds firmly set on Sunday`s big Emirates FA Cup First Round tie at Hartlepool United as they fell 2-0 down by the 20th minute.

The opening goal Basford had already been threatening arrived on 15 minutes when Reece Bertram picked his spot from 12 yards out. Five minutes later, Tyrelle Shannon-Lewis netted number two from a Jamie Walker corner.

Two-nil at half-time became 3-0 after 63 minutes when Shannon-Lewis slipped clear of the Daniels` defence to finish coolly.

Taylor Rhiney reduced the deficit with 16 minutes remaining but in a game Basford should have comfortably closed out, it was 3-2 on 89 minutes as Grant Ryan headed home to make it a nervy last few minutes.
