The top two in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South met at Coles Lane on Monday night and Leek Town's late 2-1 away win against Romulus saw them extend their advantage at the summit to seven points, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
The first half saw some neat football from both sides, but crucially the Roms were reduced to ten-men just before the break after a poor tackle on Jordan Johnson. However, after 74 minutes it was the ten-man hosts who broke the deadlock when Andy Bratt conceded a penalty that Luke Keen gratefully converted.
But just six minutes later Leek were back on level terms when a cross from Matt Bell was headed in by Johnson. And two minutes later the visitors' won it with a goal from Danny Smith.
The other game on Monday saw Gresley FC win their first home game of the season against Roms` landlords Sutton Coldfield Town. Mark Danks gave the Royals the lead after 20 minutes but Mitch Hanson levelled on the stroke of half-time. Marc Goodfellow finally earned Gresley a Moat win with 15 minutes left.
