Monday's First South action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South

The only game in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South on Monday saw an encounter at Coles Lane between Romulus and Coalville Town, the latter still smarting from exiting the FA Cup at the hands of minnows Atherstone Town on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

But the Ravens recovered well to inflict back-to-back league defeats on the Roms. Reece Lester gave the visitors a 15th minute lead when he beat home keeper Matthew Coton with a cross shot. Less than two minutes later the lead was doubled when Callum Woodward's corner was punched into his own net by Coton.

The home side reduced the arrears 12 minutes later through Liam Francis, only for Jordan Hempenstall to head in Coalville's third after 38 minutes. And Coalville made it 4-1 at half-time when Coton pulled off a great save from Hempenstall only for Jack McGovern to follow up and net.

The second half was less dramatic, as often happens when one team has such a commanding lead, but Hempenstall did manage to make it a nap hand for the Ravens midway through the second half, with Marcus Brown pulling a second back for the hosts with four minutes remaining.

Monday night's win lifts Coalville into fourth place in the table with with five games scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening.
