The only game in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South on Monday night saw Gresley FC complete a 5-2 win over Chasetown at The Moat, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
Gresley's groundstaff and volunteers worked hard to get their pitch playable after the torrential downpours on Sunday night and they were fully rewarded by their players.
The hosts were ahead by the eighth minute when Kieran O’Connell burst down the left and squared the ball to Jordan Nadat who fired home from close range. Gresley then caught Chasetown on the counter in the final minute of the first half, Rob Spencer netting with a header.
O’Connell added the Moatmen's third himself four minutes after the restart before Simon Brown scored from the spot seven minutes later to throw Chasetown a lifeline. But Gresley restored their three-goal advantage with Nadat`s second of the night soon afterwards and Paolo Piliero then added a fifth. Paul Sullivan grabbed a second consolation for the visitors with 12 minutes to go.
