Basford United dominated last season in winning promotion but are finding life a lot tougher after two straight defeats in the EVO-STIK League's Premier Division, writes Steve Whitney at Non League Today.

Martin Carruthers and his team lost on Monday night at Mill Street to a Hednesford Town side who'd also lost their opener on Saturday.

The Pitmen came racing out of the blocks and played some neat and progressive football, with Basford keeper Kieran Preston forced to make a fine tip over to prevent Mike Howard from giving the visitors the lead.
