The home side went ahead on 12 minutes when Jonathan Edwards laid the ball off to Charlie Coulson and his low finish beat Lewis Solly before going in off the post.
The lead was doubled on 23 minutes when Dan Scarr's pass out of defence was picked off by Danny Gordon who found Edwards. He cut inside before unleashing a 25-yard shot that curled beyond Solly's dive and into the top corner.
Within six minutes of the second half starting they were level, and within four more might well have been ahead.
First a deep 48th minute free-kick from Drew Canavan was headed goal-wards by Stuart Pierpoint and Kayelden Brown produced an acrobatic close-range volley. Then Canavan's corner was met by the head of the unmarked Dan Scarr in the six-yard box to even things up.
Ilkeston came again, and their lead was restored with 58 minutes gone when Liam Marshall drilled low beyond Solly into the corner.
And it was 4-2 just five minutes later, Edwards playing in Hughes before the striker fired coolly post Solly. Despite the blow, the Glassboys raised themselves one last time to ensure a nervous finish for the hosts when Karl Hawley hooked the ball home in a crowded penalty area.
Monday`s other game saw Marine AFC achieve their first win of 2015-16 at Ewen Fields against a Hyde United side who had done likewise on Saturday against Ramsbottom United.
Carl Peers gave the Mariners an 11th minute lead and despite the Tigers coming back into the game, they were unable to penetrate a determined visiting defence. Any hopes they did have ended two minutes from time with a bizarre own goal from keeper Josh Ollerenshaw killing off their hopes.
