Monday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Shaw Lane AFC recovered from Saturday's defeat at Barwell to return to the top of the EVO-STIK League Premier table on Monday night following a 2-0 win at Sheerien Park against mid-table Buxton, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

It took a while for the Ducks to shake themselves after the weekend defeat – only their fourth since winning promotion at the end of last season – but when the breakthrough came after 32 minutes, it was worth the wait.

Shaw Lane`s experienced former Harrogate Town and Alfreton Town striker Paul Clayton put them ahead with a spectacular overhead kick. And then two minutes after half-time, the hosts doubled their advantage through Alex Byrne.

And they held on to that relatively comfortably to take top spot off Warrington Town who could reclaim it again on Tuesday night when they visit Hurst Cross to take on Ashton United.
