Monday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Farsley Celtic leapt back into the play-off places in the EVO-STIK League Premier table on Monday night after winning 2-1 against a mid-table Stourbridge side who were made to rue several missed chances at Amblecote, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Farsley struggled to pose much of a threat early on but they managed to take the lead in the 19th minute when Nathan Turner found Ben Atkinson on the right edge of the box and his curling effort beat Glassboys young `keeper Harry Beasley.

The hosts fought back immediately though when Luke Benbow's effort from just inside the area took a bit of a deflection before finding the net.

The sides went into the break all-square but before the majority of the 492 crowd who braved the cold had settled back in places, Farsley were back in front when a cross found its way to Nathan Cartman. His header was beaten onto the post by Beasley only for to Isaac Baldwin to react quickest to tap home from close range.

In the 52nd minute, the Glassboys should have been back on level terms though when Luke Shearer was brought down by Lewis Turner in the box. However, Benbow`s resulting penalty was well saved by Graeme McKibbin.

Farsley kept Stourbridge at arms' length for the majority of the rest of the half to return to Yorkshire with three very useful points.
