Monday's Premier Division review

By David Watters

Newly-promoted Shaw Lane AFC moved to the top of the EVO-STIK League Premier table on Monday night after a best-of-five win at Sheerin Park over Workington AFC, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

One of the home side`s experienced strikers, Paul Clayton, gave them a 22nd minute lead but the Reds went into the half-time break all-square thanks to a goal right on the whistle from Sam Smith.

Just after the hour-mark, another of Shaw Lane`s stellar forward line, Damian Reeves, restored their lead, only for Conor Tinnion to respond for the visitors with the leveller eight minutes later. However, the Barnsley side completed a ninth win from their last ten games in all competitions with a goal from Alex Byrne with 18 minutes remaining.
