Following Red Oak Taverns’ acquisition of The Salvin Arms, the pub will proudly re-open its doors as ‘The Moors Tavern’ in August as Jason Ainsley's side make their debut in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight after winning promotion as runners-up and play-off winners.
Red Oak Taverns and the Moors are set to carry out a substantial refurbishment of all areas of the pub over the coming weeks before renting the premises from the pub company for at least the next five years.
The tavern near their home at The Brewery Field will be open all week and excited Moors officials hope it will quickly become part of the matchday routine for thirsty fans, home and away.
Spennymoor Town CEO Bradley Groves
Spennymoor Town's CEO Bradley Groves said: “The new Moors Tavern will act as a social hub for all associated with our club and the local Spennymoor community, both on match days and throughout the week.
“Visiting away fans will be welcome before and after matches and we hope the pubs proximity to the ground will encourage fans to mix socially and visit before games.”
He added: "This isn’t just a project for the football club. It’s the re-opening of a much-loved pub, so this is for the whole town."
Mike Rowcroft, the club's director of supporter and community engagement, said: “Ever since we lost the clubhouse to a fire in 2003 the supporters have been without a real focal point to congregate before and after the game.
"The announcement of the opening of the Moors Tavern is going to be a major boost to the supporters and the club alike and one more facility to improve the supporters’ match day experience for the new season and beyond. The bar in the main stand is very well attended on match days but the size is a limiting factor in the sort of facility that we want to provide."
He added: "The refurbished Moors Tavern will be open seven days a week serving not only the club on match days but the wider community of Spennymoor. The clubhouse has been a long time coming after a few false starts but ultimately, having seen the plans in store, the wait will have been worth it.”
