Moors unveil new pub boss

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Spennymoor Town have named the general manager of their new pub.

After a national three week search for the right man or woman to run The Moors Tavern, Lorraine Smith, pictured, has been installed.

Having worked for Whitbread, Marriott and a number of independently run hotels, including her last role managing a luxury hotel in York, she has more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality sector. Originally from the North East, she has moved back to take on her latest challenge.

The town pub, formerly The Salvin Arms, is being rented for at least the next five years as a new home for the fans, players and officials of last season's EVO-STIK NPL First Division North play-off winners as part of a unique partnership with Red Oak Taverns.

The tavern near The Brewery Field will be open all week and Smith is now looking forward to hiring her staff and turning it into a home from home for thirsty fans and the local community.

She said: “I was seeking an opportunity that had community at its heart. The club has a loyal following and I am really excited to be opening The Moors Tavern, which will be stunning once the refurbishment is complete.

“I’m passionate about giving local people opportunities and we’re a community pub so we want to create jobs for those in our community. I’m looking for people with talent and enthusiasm to join the team.

“Just as the football club is a focal point, we hope this pub will become one too. We’ll be open seven days a week, so it’s not just Spennymoor Town’s pub.”

Spennymoor Town chief executive Bradley Groves said: “Lorraine stood out as a quality candidate to take over at the helm of The Moors Tavern. We received many applications but her experience speaks for itself and her manner and personality are just what we’ll need to make it a success."
