Morpeth set club record crowd

Morpeth Town set a new club record attendance in midweek as they welcomed Newcastle United Under 23s for a county cup clash.

A total of 1,456 fans attended the game in the Techflow Marine Senior Cup, which the EVO-STIK League East Division leaders won 2-0 to progress to the final.

The final will be played at St James' Park, the home of Newcastle United, against North Shields.

Chairman Ken Beattie said: "It was fantastic to see such a big crowd backing us.

"We have worked hard to draw attention to the club amongst the local community and they have responded magnificently.

"We're delighted to have won and delivered a cup final at St James' Park for our fans."

The attendance broke the previous club record by 200.
