Myers recalls tasty encounter!

Blyth Spartans' new assistant manager Colin Myers is hoping his time at Croft Park isn't all pie in the sky, unlike one of his previous visits to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League ground.

The former Bishop Auckland manager, pictured, who joined the Premier Division outfit last week has revealed how at least one Spartan fan once took serious exception to him during his playing days.

Speaking to BSAFCTV about his new role, Myers revealed all about the unsavoury - or should that be savoury - incident which occurred when he arrived as a Northern League player in the early Nineties.

Myers said: "I can remember being stood on the post for a corner and getting hit in the face with a red-hot mince pie, which was an experience. But the pie was nice, so I wasn’t too bothered."

Despite his first experience, the 44-year-old told the club's new TV station of his delight at getting the chance to return to Croft Park in a managerial role and work alongside Spartans manager Tom Wade.

Myers said: "It's a massive club. It's one of the biggest clubs in North East Non-League football. Tom's an attraction for me as well. He’s done everything in the Non-League game so to work with Tom again is an added bonus."

The former English Colleges coach added: "We've had a great couple of conversations and we're going to do everything together. Tom's the manager and I'm his number two, and it's going to be a good working relationship.

"We both think the same. That's obvious with the conversations that we’ve had. We're singing off the same page and we like to do things the same way. I think it’s going to be an excellent partnership."
