Nantwich Town dealt major injury blow

Nantwich Town have confirmed that midfielder Steven Hewitt will undergo knee surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

Hewitt picked up the injury against York City in the FA Trophy back in December, and hasn't featured since.

The club say they sought a second opinion over the severity of the injury, but it has now been confirmed that the former Wythenshawe Town man will go under the knife.

He made 26 appearances for the Dabbers this season, scoring once and reaching double figures for assists.

Discussing the news, manager Paul Carden said: “It’s something that we’ve feared. He had an initial scan where the injury wasn’t quite determined, so he went for a second scan and a second opinion and it’s been determined that he will require surgery on his knee.

"[We are] absolutely gutted. Obviously he’s been missing since after we played York, so he’s been out for a number of weeks already and we’ve missed what he brings.

"I’m gutted for him. We will be supporting him anyway, but I’m sure he’ll be itching to get back and get things moving so he can start rehabbing and be stronger on his return.”
