Neville leads investment talks in Ammies

The BBC, the Manchester Evening News and the websites of a number of national newspapers are reporting that former Manchester United defender Gary Neville is in talks to invest in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Salford City.

The First Division North Ammies told the Manchester Evening News, which broke the story on Thursday afternoon, that they were not making any comment while a representative for Neville later confirmed to the BBC that talks were taking place but still at an early stage.

"Discussions are at a preliminary stage," a representative of Neville, 38, told BBC Sport.

The BBC and others are also reporting that Neville's former United team-mate Ryan Giggs may also offer financial support to set up an academy at Moor Lane and start work on a new clubhouse that has had planning permission in place since April 2011.

The proposal would be the latest joint ventures between Neville, who was born in Bury and still lives in the area, and Giggs who lives in Worsley.

Building work is currently ongoing on Hotel Football, a hotel and entertainment complex opposite Old Trafford while Cafe Football, pictured, opened in London last year.

Neville, who was born in Bury, is now on the England coaching team and a television pundit. During a career spanning almost 20 years, he won two Champions League trophies, eight Premier League titles and three FA Cups with United and made 85 appearances for England.

Giggs, 40, is another graduate of the Reds' famous 'Class of '92' and played in their 2-0 win over Cardiff City on January 28.
