Cunningham arrives Hurst Cross with a wealth of experience, including winning the 2021/22 Northern Premier League title with Buxton and also guiding the Bucks to the second round of last season’s Emirates FA Cup.
He left the club at the conclusion of their title-winning season due to personal reasons.
Cunningham replaces Michael Clegg, who resigned earlier this week after our three years in charge of the Robins.
Discussing his arrival, Ashton United co-chairman Jonathan Sayer said: “We’re delighted to appoint someone of Steve‘s calibre.
“Steve is a fantastic manager with a proven track record for winning in this league and above.
“We’re looking forward to the rest of the season where we still believe there’s lots to play for.”
Cunningham will take charge of the Robins for the first time on Saturday afternoon when they visit Warrington Rylands.
