New chairman will make history if he plays!

EVO-STIK League Ossett Albion could make history next season if their new chairman pulls on his boots again.

Former Ossett Albion, Ossett Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels, North Ferriby United and Bradford Park Avenue defender Dominic Riordan, pictured, could become one of football’s few ‘playing chairman’ after being named on Sunday as the new man to lead the First Division North club forward.

After selling his vision for the future to the club’s board, the Unicorns say the 27-year-old was elected by a unanimous vote and will be available in emergencies in a fourth spell at Dimplewells after also registering to play.

A solid centre-half and part of the Unicorns squad who just missed out on securing a play-off spot at the end of the 2007-09 campaign, injury has restricted his appearances at EVO-STIK League level over the last couple of seasons to one game for the club last term and a number of appearances at Liversedge in the Northern Counties East.

Retiring Ossett Albion Chairman Stephen Hanks said: "When I took over as chairman I always said it was a caretaker’s role until the right person came along. I believe Dominic is that person and I had no hesitation stepping down when he expressed an interest in the position."
