A new director appointed by Grantham Town is looking forward to boosting the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club’s youth set-up.

Alan Stokes, pictured being welcomed on board this week by Gingerbreads Chairman Pete Railton, has previous experience of running youth teams. Stokes recently moved into the area and joined the Premier Division club after being impressed by the set-up at the Meres Stadium and an already successful youth programme.

Railton said: "These are exciting times for Grantham Town. The addition of Alan to the board is another positive move forward for the club."

* Grantham Town Chief Executive Barrie Pierpoint is to meet fans, businesses, local community groups and organisations keen to become more involved at the Meres.

Straight-talking Pierpoint is responsible for the day-to-day running of the club and is hosting an open forum at the ground on Monday 24 February from 7pm.

Organisers say he is looking forward to being ‘challenged’ by fans and hearing their ideas on making further improvements to encourage more families, former fans and ultimately new supporters, to back the Gingerbreads on matchdays.
