New Look Sports Primed For Season

New committee adds to new signings at Mickleover

The 2011/12 season looks set to be an exciting campaign for Mickleover Sports FC following a busy summer which saw the introduction of a new Chairman and committee, plus a host of new signings.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side have appointed local businessman Stuart Clarke as Chairman who, along with an elected committee of supporters and local residents, is ensuring the club are well prepared for the new season.

This season has also seen an increase in player budget, enabling manager Dick Pratley to strengthen his squad in the close season with the addition of several experienced players.

Highly rated goalkeeper Alessandro Barcherini joins the club from Belper town. Barcherini began his career at Notts County before moving to the United States to play for Central Florida Kraze.

Sports also welcome hard-tackling centre back Thom Kellogg into defence, who has played with local teams Borrowash Victoria and Holbrook Sports.

Former Derby County academy and Macclesfield Town star Jason Beardsley is another welcome addition to the squad. After making two first team appearances for Derby County, Beardsley had a brief loan spell with Notts County before joining Macclesfield.

New signing Michael Simpson adds years of league football experience to this season's Mickleover Sports squad, having previously had successful spells with Notts County, Wycombe Wanders, Leyton Orient and, most recently, Burton Albion.

Jamie Pawley and Steve Banks have both rejoined Sports in the close season having previously played with local side Borrowash Victoria.

“The club now has stable foundations in place that will enable the team to move forward and progress on the pitch”, comments Chairman Stuart Clarke.

“Dick has made a great selection of signings during the close season that we believe will provide a successful mix of youth, talent and experience, and will ensure progression in the league.”

The opening home fixture against Nantwich Town promises to be a lively encounter following last season’s thrilling 6-6 draw, which saw Sports leading 6-2. The game kicks off at 3pm on Sunday 14th August.
