New stand opens for disabled supporters

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Sutton Coldfield Town have opened a new covered stand to protect their disabled supporters from the elements this winter when they are watching the action at Coles Lane.

The stand - the latest in a series of improvements to the ground in recent seasons which have included the installation of a 3G artificial surface in 2011, new perimeter fencing and the refurbishment of the clubhouse - is named after Richard Underwood, pictured lower right, who has been a loyal home and away supporter of the Royals for many years.

SCTFC director Paul Kelly, pictured lower centre, donated the new facility to the First Division South club and he was thanked on Thursday by Royals chairman Nick Thurston for his support after its official opening.

Thurston said: "We are very grateful to Paul for providing the new stand which provides an excellent covered area for wheelchair users to watch the games here at Coles Lane. We will continue our efforts to improve facilities on and off the pitch and with our first team currently going very well in the league, it's definitely an exciting time for the club."
