No fear for high-flying chairman!

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Blyth Spartans chairman Tony Platten has been showing off his head for heights again!

After a floodlight failure in his club's final game of last season, Platten was happy to clamber up the offending mast at Croft Park on Monday to change the bulb and test the installation ahead of their first evening game of the season on Tuesday night against Ashton United.

Assisted by Spartans vice-chairman Kevin Scott and wearing a regulation safety harness and hard hat, Platten is pictured at the top of the 60ft mast effecting the repair in time for Tom Wade's side to share the honours with the Robins in a 3-3 draw.

The Spartans chairman still had his sense of humour after completing his vertigo defying task, joking afterwards that he wished they'd been playing their first floodlit fixture this coming weekend.

Platten, pictured above carrying out more routine duties at ground level, said: "I should have done the job when the tall ships were visiting Blyth on the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend – as it would have made for a perfect vantage point!”
