NPL clubs show their respects

Northern Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II ahead of games this week.

A minute’s silence was held before all games, with players also wearing black armbands.

A full programme of games in the NPL Premier Division was played on Tuesday night, with a further 32 games involving NPL clubs played in the FA Trophy from Monday to Wednesday.

At Carlton Town’s FA Trophy game against Hanley Town, a home supporter played the National Anthem.

John Bryson, member of the Media team for Carlton said: "About an hour before kickoff our Chairman Mick Garton was chatting with a group of our supporters when the suggestion came up of doing a little extra on the night in recognition of what The Queen has done for our country over several decades.

"One of the group chatting with Mick was Alastair Weir, a brass instrument player, and he had his cornet with him.

"A quick chat with match Referee Alex Sawden, and it was agreed that Alastair would play the National Anthem as the two teams and match officials took to the pitch.

"We set Alastair up with a microphone, and God Save The King reverberated around the ground, and was appreciated by all present."
