NPL Preview | Saturday 13 January

By James Gordon

There are eight fixtures to look forward to in the Northern Premier League this weekend as the battle for a play-off spot heats up.

Hyde United, who jumped into 5th place last weekend with a 4-1 win away at Marine will look to solidify their position as they travel to face Lancaster City.

Whitby Town must overcome a difficult hurdle in their bid to break into the top five as they travel to Warrington Rylands. The Blues will be hoping that they can pick back up their form to put pressure on league leaders Radcliffe after failing to record a win in their last four outings.

Third-placed Worksop Town will be hoping to put some distance between themselves and their closest competitors Macclesfield when they welcome Ilkeston Town to Sandy Lane.

Marine will look to bounce back from last weekend’s heavy defeat when they welcome Stafford Rangers to the Marine Travel Arena. Boro, who currently sit in 19th place, have hit a vein of form in recent weeks, picking up six points from their last three fixtures and they will look to progress with their bid to stave off relegation with a good performance in Merseyside.

Guiseley will be hoping to continue their good run of form when they host Bamber Bridge at Nethermoor. The Lions have picked up 13 points from their last six fixtures, putting them just outside of a playoff position due to goal difference.

After back-to-back defeats, Matlock Town are at risk of losing ground with the chasing pack towards the top of the table. The Gladiators occupy 16th place, but a win on the road against a struggling Atherton Collieries could turn their fortunes around.

Following Marske United’s record being expunged, Bradford (Park Avenue) now sit in 21st place and they will be hoping to pick up a valuable three points as they host FC United of Manchester.

Elsewhere, Morpeth Town will be looking to build upon last weekend’s late comeback as they travel to Gainsborough Trinity who have hit a resurgence in recent weeks following back-to-back victories over Worksop Town and Guiseley.
