NPL round-up | Saturday 17 February

By James Gordon

Radcliffe took another huge step towards being crowned champions of the Northern Premier League after coming from a goal down to beat in-form Marine 3-2 at the Neuven Stadium.

Marine arrived in Greater Manchester having won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions, and despite hitting the front inside 13 minutes through Owen Robinson, they were unable to deny the Boro their 22nd league win of the season.

The league leaders' goals all came in an eight-minute burst either side of the half-hour mark as Ewan Bange, top scorer Jordan Hulme and Willem Tomlinson turned the game on its head in difficult playing conditions.

Fin Sinclair-Smith's 20th goal of the season gave Marine hope heading into the final quarter, but Radcliffe held on to move 15 points clear at the Northern Premier League summit.

Warrington Rylands started the weekend second in the table, but torrential rain meant their trip to FC United of Manchester was abandoned early in the second half after both teams agreed that the Broadhurst Park playing surface had become unplayable.

The two teams will meet again to replay the fixture on Tuesday 5 March.

Hyde United climbed above them on goal difference, having come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Stafford Rangers.

Manasse Mampala was on target for the Tigers as he cancelled out Kaiman Anderson's 52nd minute opener for Stafford - who are six points from safety.

The most entertaining game of the round came at the Leasing.com Stadium, where a John Rooney hat-trick helped Macclesfield to a 5-3 win over Ilkeston Town.

That result was enough to see the Silkmen climb back into the play-off places after Worksop Town were held to a 0-0 draw away at Matlock Town.

Elsewhere, two goals in either half were enough to see Guiseley ease past Morpeth Town with a 4-1 win at Nethermoor.

Lancaster City lost ground in the race for the top five, dropping points at home to Workington.

Reds top scorer David Symington's 21st goal of the season cancelled out Dominic Lawson's composed first half opener for the Dolly Blues, who are now four points adrift of the play-offs.

The points were also shared between Bradford Park Avenue and Ashton United as the pair played out a 1-1 draw in West Yorkshire.

The only other scheduled game of the round between Bamber Bridge and relegation-threatened Atherton Collieries was postponed due to a waterlogged playing surface at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.
