NPL round-up | Saturday 3 February

By James Gordon

It was a Saturday afternoon of surprise results in the Northern Premier League, with only one of the division's top four teams claiming maximum points.

Perhaps the most remarkable game of the day came at the Neuven Stadium, where league leaders Radcliffe were beaten 4-3 by Guiseley.

The hosts had led 2-1 heading into half-time, but a remarkable 10-minute spell either side of the interval saw the Lions take control with three goals.

A late effort from Radcliffe's Luca Navarro set up a nervy final 10 minutes, but they couldn't force the all-important equaliser as Guiseley held on to record their fourth win in six matches.

Marine started the weekend second, but they also dropped points on the road at Ilkeston Town.

Sol Solomon 17th goal of the season rescued a 1-1 draw for the Mariners 20 minutes from time, cancelling out Tom Cursons' first half effort as the two teams shared the spoils.

Hyde United are up to third in the league table after defeating Workington 2-0.

Goals in either half from Lewis Alessandra and Jack Redshaw stretched the Tigers' unbeaten run to 14 matches in all competitions - including six wins on the bounce, with 22 goals scored during that run.

Life without top scorer Adama Sidibeh got off to a losing start for Warrington Rylands as they fell to a surprise 3-2 defeat at home to Bradford Park Avenue.

The winner came three minutes from time as Chinedu Osadebe scored his second of the afternoon for the relegation-threatened visitors, who remain six points from safety despite the victory.

Elsewhere, Jay Rollins' second-minute header was enough to see Worksop Town past Ashton United.

The Tigers remain in the play-off places on goal difference alone, with Macclesfield hot on their heels after a 2-1 win over Bamber Bridge.

Kane Drummond and John Rooney were on target for the Silkmen as they made it back-to-back wins on the league front.

Three points also went the way of top-half sides Whitby Town and Lancaster City. The former eased past Basford United 3-0 on home soil, while the Dolly Blues netted their third stoppage time winner of the calendar year as Christian Sloan saw them to a 1-0 victory over Matlock Town at the Giant Axe.

FC United of Manchester also returned to winning ways at home to Gainsborough Trinity. Jordan Buckley broke the deadlock after 55 minutes then Jan Palinkas wrapped up the points with 15 minutes to go.

Finally, Atherton Collieries gave their survival hopes a boost after edging a seven-goal thriller at home to Morpeth Town.

There were four different players on the scoresheet for Colls, who have been on both ends of a 4-3 scoreline over consecutive Saturdays.
