N/West round-up: Marske lose last unbeaten record

By James Gordon

Tadcaster Albion couldn’t make the most of leaders Workington having a weekend off, but did reduce the gap at the top to four.

Ioan Evans equalised five minutes after Alex McQuade’s opener for a 1-1 draw at home to Ossett United, with the Reds’ home game with Runcorn Linnets postponed due to safety concerns.

Marine are up to third after they avenged their 4-1 loss at Marske United last weekend with a 3-1 win at home. Craig Pritchard scored a brace in the final quarter for their sixth win in 10 and condemn Marske to their first defeat of the season, ending the only unbeaten record left in the league.

Pontefract Collieries came from 2-0 down to beat Widnes 3-2.

Colls almost had a false start after heading to the wrong ground, Widnes’ former temporary home at Barnton rather than the Halton Stadium, and they fell behind to Ben Hodkinson’s brace.

But they mounted a fine comeback, completed by Jake Picton in the 89th minute.

There were plenty of goals at Dunston, who lost 4-3 to Trafford, who continue their rise up the table.

Lewis Salmon’s goalscoring form continued with a brace, cancelling out a Scott Heslop brace for the hosts, and Darius Palma struck the winner 10 minutes from time.

City of Liverpool won 1-0 for the second home game in a row, and once again it was Luke Denson who scored the only goal, this time to see off Mossley.

Clitheroe recorded their third successive win, beating Kendal Town 2-0, while Pickering Town slumped to their fifth defeat in six, going down 3-1 at Droylsden.

Elsewhere, Brighouse Town ended a run of three straight defeats by beating Prescot Cables 2-0.

Carl Stewart and Alhassane Keita scored within a minute of each other early in the second half to earn them their fourth win of the season.
