Ossett paints the town blue with the visit of Leeds United

Saturday saw a sell-out crowd of 1,600 flock to Ingfield as Ossett United’s preparations for their debut campaign in the NPL continued.

Ossett opened their pre-season schedule with games against Campion AFC, AFC Fylde and Hemsworth Miners Welfare, with Leeds United the fourth game for the newly merged Ossett United last Saturday. The Leeds United team contained a couple of players with first-team experience including Eunan O'Kane and Luke Murphy in a game which was won by the visitors 1-0 courtesy of a thirty-second minute goal from Alex Wollerton.

Reflecting on the events of the day, Phil Smith, Ossett United CEO said: “It was a fantastic occasion made possible by the fans, the tireless work of the volunteers and board of Ossett United and of course Leeds United Academy Director Adam Underwood and all those involved down at Elland Road, who made the day possible.

“To see Ingfield full of fans, many wearing their Ossett United shirts was something special. The whole town have got behind us, and we are so excited to start this season.

“Thanks to League Chairman, Mark Harris, Secretary Angie Firth and Commercial & Compliance Manager Paul Hatt and everyone at the NPL for the continuous support and advice they have given over the last seven months. Combined with The FA, they have helped to make this process run as smoothly as possible.”
