The former Burton Albion skipper was rewarded with a two year contract at the Don Amott Arena on Tuesday after guiding the Derbyshire club to their highest ever finish in the Non-League pyramid last term, 16th spot in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight.
Appointed in April 2016 as the successor to Glenn Kirkwood and Craig Hopkins, the player-manager, pictured, also oversees the successful Sports youth set-up including the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club's three-time NPL Football Academy champions.
The ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder told fans he felt "privileged" to stay at the helm with the club on the up and preparing for a £1.6m ground development of their Station Road home.
The 37-year-old, who snapped up highly-rated strikers Bradley Grayson from Buxton and Evan Garnett from Belper Town this week, said: "I am delighted to continue my work as manager of Mickleover Sports and show my commitment by signing a new two year contract.
"With everything happening off the pitch with our new development going ahead and with the support of the chairman Don Amott, the board and club committee members, Mickleover Sports is a club that has an exciting future ahead and I am privileged to be a part of it all.”
Mickleover Sports chairman Don Amott paid tribute to McGrath in the statement announcing his reappointment. “He is a key figure of our future and I believe a strong relationship between the manager and the chairman is so important in all football clubs," said the chairman. "It’s a pleasure for me to work with John."
McGrath is currently preparing his side for a pre-season programme that includes friendlies against Sheffield United, Notts County, Burton Albion, Coventry City and Mansfield Town.
