Positive Evans looks to future

Romulus

Despite two different results for Romulus this week manager Richard Evans insists that the performances were both 'very positive', writes Andy Mitchell.

Against all odds on Saturday, the Roms ended a winless run that plagued the end of last season by beating then league leaders Stamford 2-0 on their own patch, smashing the Daniels’ one hundred per cent start to the Evo-Stik NPL First Division South season.

Evans' men tried to back that up with a home win over local rivals Chasetown on Monday night, but lost 3-1 in a highly competitive match.

But Evans is happy with his side’s start to the season and is delighted that there is more to come with a new found competitive edge at Coles Lane.

On the latest games Evans said: "They were both good performances, the only difference being we gave a really bad goal away against Chasetown, but the pleasing thing is we’re much more competitive and look like we’ll be okay – we’ve set the standard now."

Romulus travel to Kidsgrove Athletic this weekend after both sides were knocked out of the FA Cup a fortnight ago with Evans now looking to add points to the performances.

"We’re going there to get in their faces and get at them from the first whistle – we’re going out to win the game because the mood is very positive at the moment and we need to keep that mentality going. That is what we’ve done so far this season and teams don’t like it. We’ve found that competitive edge again and it is standing us in good stead.

He added: "I’m very positive so far – I know it’s early but we’ve played the current top three sides as well as last season’s play-off finalists and we’ve matched them all for long periods, so we’re looking forward to Saturday."

Richard Munday, who has missed the last two games, looks set to be out for another two weeks with hamstring trouble while Nathan Jackson is suspended. Goalkeeper Dave Clarke should be available.
