Powell, pictured, was named on Monday as the successor to Mark Beesley for the 2016-17 EVO-STIK NPL First Division North campaign after he left Victoria Park.
UEFA B coach Powell was the former assistant manager to Danny Johnson at Radcliffe Borough and Ashton United and number two to Sean Reid when he managed Warrington Town on their historic FA Cup run two seasons ago.
Powell will be supported by recently appointed director of football David 'Sooty' Sutton and has started work immediately. In a statement announcing his appointment, the Linnets said their new manager was already assessing the club's current players, meeting candidates for their successful academy and looking forward to staging trials for new recruits in the near future.
Burscough FC
Burscough chairman Mike Swift Chairman said: "We wish David's predecessor Mark well in his new ventures and thank him for a successful campaign. Now we look forward to the new season's challenges with a manager bringing to Burscough FC contemporary expertise and accredited coaching skills, especially for player development. It is also an open door for new faces to arrive to contribute to the football we expect at this exciting time in the club's development."
A club spokesman added: "He has experience and many positive results in development and getting the best from players, having created a successful environment wherever he has managed and coached. He has a great understanding of working within a Non-League club and sees BFC as his local team – he is aware of the history and is looking forward to the future."
The Linnets are also looking for a new secretary. For more information on the role and to register interest in attending the trial Powell is planning, contact Tony Dean on 01704 545515 or 07918 755819.
