Premier Division Preview: Hyde visit Marine, South Shields to face old foes

By James Gordon

All teams are set to feature this weekend in the Northern Premier League.

League leaders Gainsborough Trinity will welcome Radcliffe at Northolme.

It will be a tough test for Boro, with Trinity sitting five points above them after a run of just one defeat in their last 14 league matches.

South Shields will make the long trip to Cantilever Park as they face a Warrington Town side looking to bounce back after consecutive home defeats in league and cup.

The Mariners will look to capitalise on the Yellows’ poor run of form, with a win potentially taking them top of the table depending on other results.

It was also Mark Beesley’s who defeated Shields at the 1st Cloud Arena on penalties in last season’s play-off semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Hyde United travel to the Marine Travel Arena on Saturday for their game against Marine, another of the sides currently in the play-off places.

The third-placed Tigers will look to bounce back from successive defeats with three points on the road, while the Lilywhites go in search of their third consecutive league win.

Following a heavy defeat to South Shields in midweek, Bamber Bridge welcome Matlock Town to the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

The Brig have only one win from their last six league fixtures and will look to restore their early season form with three points in front of their home fans.

Elsewhere on Saturday, FC United of Manchester travel to Marston Road for their fixture against Stafford Rangers.

Rangers will hope to continue their solid home form in the league this season, having only lost only twice in front of their home fans in 2022/23.

Following a run of three consecutive away games, Lancaster City return to the Giant Axe to face Ashton United.

An impressive display last time out saw the Dolly Blues storm to a 2-1 victory over Hyde United, a third win in as many matches for Mark Fell’s side.

Warrington Rylands will look to build momentum as they look to extend their three-game unbeaten run against Stalybridge Celtic.

Celtic currently sit 19th in the table and have gone without a home win in the league since mid-September.

Morpeth Town, strugglers of late, face Belper Town.

Both sides have failed to win any of their last six matches in the division, and a victory for either team will be a huge boost ahead of a busy December schedule.

Guiseley will travel to Liversedge for their match at the Clayborn Ground.

The Lions, who progressed in the FA Trophy last weekend, will go in search of a much-needed league win having lost their last three, despite scoring in each of those matches.

Whitby Town, bolstered by the recent arrival of striker Connor Simpson, will host Atherton Collieries this weekend, while Curtis Woodhouse’s Marske United look to build on their recent win over Warrington Town as they return to Cheshire to face Nantwich Town.

It will be no easy task for the Seasiders, with the Dabbers turning their form around in recent weeks.
