Premier Division preview: Shields host league leaders as Yellows visit Yorkshire Coast

By James Gordon

Eight teams are in action on Tuesday night in the latest round of midweek Northern Premier League fixtures.

Current league leaders Hyde United travel to the 1st Cloud Arena to take on South Shields.

The Tigers have lost just three games in the league this season but will be well aware of the threat of a Shields side looking to bounce back from their defeat to League One Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup first round last weekend.

Due to their cup involvement, ninth-placed Shields also have several games in hand on the sides above them as they look to close the five-point gap to the current table-toppers.

Elsewhere, Warrington Town will go in search of their fifth consecutive league win on Tuesday away at Whitby Town.

Manager Mark Beesley brought up 50 games in charge of the club as Saturday’s comfortable 3-1 win over Guiseley saw them extend their impressive recent form.

They face a Whitby side finding difficulty maintaining any sort of momentum in the league.

Despite a fantastic 3-0 win at home to Bamber Bridge last week, the Blues failed to make it back-to-back wins on Saturday after losing 2-0 at Warrington Rylands.

Meanwhile, Guiseley face Ashton United, with both teams looking to move to within two points of the play-offs with victory.

Saturday’s defeat to Nantwich Town was the Robins’ first in the league since October 4, and they will be out to return to winning ways as they travel north to Nethermoor.

Finally, Marske United will look to end a run of five successive league defeats as they welcome Lancaster City to Mount Pleasant.

The Seasiders are currently seven points ahead of Tuesday’s opponents, and Curtis Woodhouse will hope to extend that further as he goes in search of a first win as Marske manager.
