Premier Division round-up: League leaders held as Yellows make it a hat-trick

By James Gordon

Northern Premier League leaders FC United of Manchester missed the chance to move four points clear at the top after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Lancaster City.

Regan Linney kept up his fine goalscoring form to give the hosts the lead, but the Dolly Blues responded as Sam Bailey netted midway through the first half.

The Reds’ slip-up meant South Shields closed the gap at the top of the division to two points thanks to a 1-0 victory over Warrington Rylands.

The Mariners left it late as Robert Briggs came off the bench to score the winner six minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Warrington Town moved up to third after recording three straight wins for the first time since the start of the 2020/21 season.

They beat Matlock Town 3-1 thanks to goals from Stefan Mols, Jay Harris and Connor Woods - his third in as many matches.

Bamber Bridge are locked on 25 points with Shields and the Yellows after ending Gainsborough Trinity’s seven-game unbeaten run in the league with a 2-1 victory at the Northolme.

First-half goals from Connor Stanley and Nathan Pond proved to be the difference, with Liam Waldock’s goal six minutes after half-time not enough to instigate a comeback for the hosts.

Marine continued their fine return to the division as they climbed to fifth with a 2-1 win at home to basement side Belper Town.

Top scorer Hayden Campbell and Sol Solomon scored either side of Luke Mangham’s header as the hosts made it eight games unbeaten in all competitions.

Ashton United scored their second stoppage time equaliser in the space of a week to share the spoils away at Radcliffe.

Olly Thornley’s close-range finish had given the Boro a second-half lead, but Darius Osei made it 1-1 in the 90th minute.

Elsewhere, Hyde United secured their first victory in five matches as Manasse Mampala’s first-half strike helped them beat Marske United 1-0, while Stafford Rangers came from behind to draw 1-1 at home to Guiseley, with both goals coming from the penalty spot.

Atherton Collieries gained a point on home soil, despite being relinquishing a one-goal lead against Morpeth Town, and Raul Correia’s penalty helped Stalybridge Celtic pick up their fourth league win of the season away at Whitby Town.

And finally, Nantwich Town suffered a sixth defeat in seven matches as Jack Carr’s first goal for Liversedge was enough for a 1-0 victory.
