Premier preview: FC United look to make it 15 unbeaten

By James Gordon

FC United of Manchester could stretch their unbeaten run to 15 this weekend as they travel to ninth-placed Hyde United.

Neil Reynolds’ side fought back to claim a 3-2 victory over Radcliffe on New Year’s Day in front of over 2,000 fans, with Tunde Owalabi scoring the match winner in injury time.

It was their seventh win in a row in all competitions, and they face Hyde United in the BetVictor Northern Premier Division, who defeated them 2-1 earlier in the season.

The club also confirmed the loan extension of Alex Curran, who has made 19 appearances for the side from Stockport County.

Hyde United bounced back from their Boxing Day defeat to claim a 2-1 victory over Buxton, with Jordan Fagbola and Connor Hughes on the scoresheet.

At the top of the table, South Shields travel to Hurst Cross to face second from bottom Ashton United, who last drew 0-0 with Stalybridge Celtic.

The Robins recently confirmed that Jordan Slew has left the club to join League Two side Morecambe, and the side look to search for their first win since the start of November.

The Mariners sit at the top of the table with a three point advantage, as Lancaster City failed to edge closer as they lost 2-1 to Atherton Collieries. The second-placed side face Morpeth Town, who sit 13th in the table.

Elsewhere in the play-offs, Basford United host Matlock Town and Stalybridge Celtic face Scarborough Athletic.

Moving outside of the play-offs, Warrington Town went December with a win, and drew against South Shields, Basford United, Witton Albion and Bamber Bridge, with two goals in injury time seeing a share of the spoils.

Paul Carden has recently boosted his forward options with the loan signing of Will Harris from Burnley, and he could make his debut this weekend as they host Atherton Collieries.

Previewing the away fixture, Coll’s Brad Cooke told the Bolton News: “We’ve had a tough run of fixtures.

“We had Radcliffe away on Boxing Day and were very unlucky not to come away with a
point, even three points really, we were very unlucky.

“Now we’ve got another tough one against Warrington Town. We’ll prepare right again and give it a good go.”

Just below the Yellows, Radcliffe host Bamber Bridge in a battle of seventh versus fifteenth respectively.

Curtis Woodhouse’s Gainsborough Trinity recently recorded their second consecutive win of the season, and they face Whitby Town, while Witton face Buxton.

Grantham Town host Stafford Rangers, while Mickleover Sports face Nantwich Town.
