Premier Preview: Play-off clash in top division

By James Gordon

Lancaster City host Warrington Town in a play-off clash in the BetVictor Northern Premier Division.

Following defeats to South Shields and Ashton United, The Dolly Blues have dropped to fourth place in the play-offs, and will host Warrington at the Giant Axe.

Discussing their title chances to the Lancaster Guardian, manager Mark Fell said: “We have just got to stay in and around it.

“We lost last weekend but we are still in the same position as we were before because South
Shields lost against Witton.

“I would say they were actually better last season that they are this season.

“They have a tough game this weekend against Stalybridge and they will drop points.

“We are quite capable of going on a run. Earlier this season we won 11 out of 13 games. So it is possible although it’s going to be a big ask.

“We know Warrington is going to be a tough game – we know what they are about and that is they are one of the best teams in the division.”

At the top of the table on goals difference, South Shields travel to Stalybridge Celtic, who sit eighth in the league and recently announced the signing of Scott Metcalfe following his departure from Radcliffe.

Just behind in second place, Basford United will look to continue their impressive form as they face Gainsborough Trinity, who have recently announced the departures of Joe Maguire and Curtis Morrison.

FC United of Manchester are unbeaten in their last 11 league fixtures, and Neil Reynolds’ side host Mickleover Sports.

Just outside of the play-offs, Nantwich Town host Bamber Bridge, while Witton Albion face Stafford Rangers.

Radcliffe announced Garry Vaughan and Darren Lyons as their interim managers until the end of the season, and they will take charge of their first game against Morpeth Town, with five places separating the sides on the table.

Atherton Collieries welcomed Jordan Boon on a youth loan from Bolton Wanderers, and he could make his debut this weekend against Whitby Town.

Ashton United recently jumped to 18th place in the league following a 1-0 victory over Lancaster City, thanks to a goal from Louis Almond, and they travel to Scarborough Athletic.

Buxton, who sit second from bottom, recently added Jordan Nicholson on loan from Hereford FC on loan and they face Grantham Town.

Lastly, Matlock Town host Hyde United.
