Premier Round-up: Farsley hit six as Scarborough stretch lead

By James Gordon

Scarborough stretched their lead at the top of the EVO-STIK League Premier Division with a 2-0 win over Marine.

Second half goals from Ross Killock and Michael Coulson fired the Seadogs to their seventh win in their last nine and they now sit four points ahead of Nantwich Town, who were held to a 2-2 draw at Bamber Bridge.

Alistair Waddecar’s brace, including an 81st minute equaliser, cancelled out goals from Sean Cooke and Joe Mwasile for the visitors.
Third placed Farsley Celtic have the best average points record in the league and they hammered North Ferriby United 6-0.

A Ben Atkinson penalty had them a goal in front against the bottom-placed side at the break, but they cut loose in the second half thanks to goals from Will Hayhurst, James Spencer (2), a Jack Smith own goal and Luke Parkin.

Two teams in the play-off places met at Cantilever Park as Warrington Town were held to a 1-1 draw by Basford United.

The Yellows led through Jack Mackreth, but Stefan Galinski’s second half header on debut following his arrival from Grantham Town earned the visitors a valuable point, particularly given their indifferent away form this term.

Matlock Town continued their sharp climb up the league table but left it late to beat Stalybridge Celtic 3-1.

Jamie Jackson and Jake Green both scored in injury time after Liam Tongue had cancelled out Marcus Marshall’s early goal.

The Gladiators have now won four consecutive games in the league, scoring 16 goals in the process, and are unbeaten in their last 10. They are now just two points off the play-off places.

Cup kings Witton Albion hammered five past Buxton to keep them away from the bottom three, though their FA Cup and FA Trophy exploits mean they have a number of games in hand.

A James Foley brace, William Jones, Daniel McKenna and a Joshua Meade own goal helped Witton to a win against a Buxton side who lost for only the fourth time all season.

There was late drama in front of an outstanding 1,749 crowd at South Shields, as the home side beat Mickleover Sports 3-2. Evan Garnett’s brace had threatened to earn Sports a point, but Joshua Gillies added to earlier goals from Dillon Morse and Robert Briggs.

Both South Shields and Gainsborough sit on the cusp of the play-off places alongside Matlock, and Trinity came from behind to hammer Whitby Town 4-1.

Whitby took the lead inside three minutes through Matthew Tymon and led at half time, but a second half show including a brace from Alexander Simmons after Ashley Worsfold had equalised earned the three points, before Shane Clarke added a bit of gloss late on.

Struggling Workington were humbled 4-1 at home to last season’s play-off finalists Grantham Town. Max Watters had the visitors a goal in front at half time, but three goals in 13 minutes from Daniel Durkin (2) and Watters’ second put the Gingerbreads 4-0 up before Scott Allison pulled one back from the penalty spot.

Hyde United scored two goals in the last six minutes to beat Hednesford Town 2-0. Connor Simpson and Chib Chilaka earned them the points to move them within one of their opponents.

Elsewhere, Lancaster City and Stafford Rangers battled out a goalless draw at The Giant Axe which does little to aid either side’s climb up the table.
