Premier Round-up: Nantwich are the new leaders

The Dabbers won 1-0 at Whitby Town thanks to Joseph Malkin’s second half goal, and that meant they took full advantage of Scarborough Athletic losing 3-1 at Basford United.

The Seadogs slipped up for the second successive week as they became the latest victims of Basford’s enviable home record, the league’s leading goalscorer Nathan Watson adding two more to his tally after Gregory Tempest had given them an early lead.

Michael Coulson, third in the league scoring charts, did pull one back prior to half time in between Watson’s brace.

The only team with a better home record than Basford are South Shields, who maintained their 100% record with a 5-0 thumping of Matlock Town.

Matlock have climbed up the league considerably in recent weeks off the back of an 11-match unbeaten run, but they were brought back down to earth with a bump in the north east.

The damage was done inside the first half hour as Carl Finnigan and Gavin Cogdon (2) put the hosts in command, in what was a timely reminder of their promotion credentials.

Jon Shaw’s goal seven minutes in to the second half ensured any faint hopes of an unlikely comeback were well and truly diminished before David Foley put icing on the cake late on.

Nicely placed in third place are Farsley Celtic, who had to come from behind to beat Mickleover Sports 2-1.

Adam Prusa’s first goal of the season on the stroke of half time gave Sports the lead at the break, but goals from Will Hayhurst and Ben Atkinson turned things round for the Yorkshireman.

They are above Warrington Town on goal difference after the Yellows picked up another win and another clean sheet in beating Marine 2-0.

Bohan Dixon drilled in the opener shortly near the half hour mark and Tony Gray’s second half tap-in made sure of the points.

Those results meant that Gainsborough Trinity dropped out of the play-off places courtesy of their 1-1 draw at home to Witton Albion.

Joe Maguire put through his own goal in the first half, but Ashley Worsfold ensured Trinity got a point.

North Ferriby are three points adrift again at the bottom after they were beaten 2-1 at home to the ever improving Lancaster City, who continue to climb the table under Mark Fell.

Steven Williams and Jake Martindale exchanged early goals but David Norris’ goal for the Dolly Blues on 19 minutes proved enough to settle the game.

Struggling Workington picked up a much needed win, but were made to work to beat managerless Hednesford Town 4-2.

The Pitmen led 2-1 at the break after Matthias Curley and Samuel Griffiths had cancelled out Conor Tinnion’s opener in their first game since the departure of Rob Smith to Halesowen Town.

Gari Rowntree levelled things up 10 minutes after the restart, and Scott Allison put the Cumbrians in front before the hour.

Jordan Holt scored their fourth five minutes from time to secure only their third win of the season.

They were the only team in the bottom seven to win as Stafford Rangers went down 1-0 at home to Buxton, for whom Ashley Young’s goal lifts them to ninth.

Grantham fell to their ninth loss in their last 10 as they were soundly beaten by Hyde 3-0.

Thomas Pratt put them on their way from the penalty spot inside three minutes, and he added a second on the half hour.

Chib Chilaka grabbed a late goal off the bench to put Hyde 10th.

In the other game of the day, Bamber Bridge beat Stalybridge Celtic 3-0 in a meeting of two sides firmly planted in mid-table.

A goalless first half was followed by goals from Chris Marlow, Alistair Waddecar and Paul Dawson for the hosts.
