Premier Round-up: Nantwich close the gap

By James Gordon

Nantwich Town moved to within two points of leaders Scarborough Athletic in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division on Saturday after a 4-1 win at bottom-markers North Ferriby United.

Callum Saunders gave the Dabbers a 12th minute lead that Danny Glover doubled 9 minutes later from the penalty spot after Saunders had been taken down in the box.

Joel Stair gave the Villagers a mountain to climb when he made it 3-0 with only 33 minutes gone, although Tom Waudby did reduce the deficit within 2 minutes.

But a second for Glover, this time from open play in the 67th minute, completed a comfortable win.

Warrington Town had the chance to go third but were beaten 1-0 at Keys Park by mid-table Hednesford Town, for whom Dan Cockerline headed the winner in the 70th minute – Warrington having Adam Carden dismissed later in a feisty affair.

Matlock Town moved up to tenth spot after a 2-1 win at the DCJ Group Insurance Arena against Bamber Bridge.

Craig King put the Gladiators ahead after 12 minutes and Nathan Whitehead added a second 7 minutes later.

Ali Waddecar pulled one back for Brig just past the hour-mark, but they weren`t able to find a leveller.

Marine AFC moved out of the drop zone after a 1-1 draw the MTA against a Gainsborough Trinity side who are now eighth.

James Joyce broke the deadlock to give the Mariners the lead on the hour-mark, only for Simon Russell to level 15 minutes from time.
