Now in its 16th year and a vital annual fundraiser, the Mariners are set to tee off at the course this season on Monday 5 September.
The West Lancashire Golf Club was founded in 1873 and is among the ten oldest golf clubs in England and ranked among the top 100 courses in the UK. Boasting one of the most natural and testing links in the British Isles, the course has hosted final qualifying for The Open Championship when it has been played at Royal Liverpool, Royal Lytham and Royal Birkdale.
After choosing the venue again, the Mariners are expecting to 15 teams of four to battle it out for the magnificent Marine FC 120th anniversary trophy which will be presented by Mariners chairman Paul Leary after play at an awards dinner.
Marine chairman Paul Leary said: “This is a another very special day for Marine football club as we stage our sixteenth annual golf day with the event taking place once again at the superb facilities and course at the nearby West Lancashire Golf Club.
"Last year was one of our most successful days and I look forward to another great golfing day with extra competition from four new teams who are to join us for the first time.”
He added: “Once again I thank the members of West Lancashire Golf Club for making the course and facilities available for use by our football club again. The facilities are absolutely first class and I had no hesitation in choosing the West Lancs for the fifth year in succession.”
Organisers say the cost per team of four has been held at £395 with play starting shortly after midday. New teams interested in entering the tournament should contact the Mariners chairman via email at learymarine@aol.com.
