Quinn: Pitmen reverse is history

Nantwich Town

Dabbers manager Jimmy Quinn is keen to look ahead to Saturday's home match against Whitby Town and put the weekend's 3-0 Evo-Stik Northern Premier League defeat at Hednesford behind them, writes Robert Summerscales.

Nantwich fell behind after just 48 seconds of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division clash in Staffordshire, Ben Bailey heading home from Jamey Osborne's long throw. Elliot Durrell doubled the Pitmen's lead from another throw-in midway through the first half before Sam Barnes completed the scoring with a late tap-in.

Quinn, pictured, said: "I was very disappointed with the first couple of goals we conceded – two identical goals from long throws. I wish it were that easy for us to score. We could have defended better. It is hard work when you concede a goal in the first 10 minutes, particularly away from home to a team second in the league.

"We've got a bit of work to do. We're on a bad run at the minute and the only way to change that is to get on the training field and to do a bit of hard work in the week. We have a home game against Whitby and we need to do well against them. It was three points lost but the focus is now on a couple of days of hard work in training."

Full-back Paris Bateman, who joined Nantwich on a two-month loan from Crewe Alexandra last week, made his Dabbers debut at Keys Park. Quinn was impressed by the 20-year-old's performance, describing it as one of the highlights of an otherwise frustrating afternoon.

"He did very well," declared Quinn. "It is difficult for a lad that's coming into a team that concedes a goal after 30 seconds. He wants to come in a make a good impression and make a contribution towards a good result. We've lost the game, but I thought he did well. He's a good lad and he did himself credit."
