Radcliffe sign Polish goalkeeper

Radcliffe have announced the impressive signing of goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt.

The 26-year-old boasts a wealth of experience from higher in the football pyramid, joining from League Two outfit Tranmere Rovers following the expiration of his contract.

The towering 6'3 shot-stopper started his footballing journey with Everton, where he would feature on numerous occasions for their Under 23s.

He was almost an ever-present in David Unsworth's Under-23s side that were crowned Premier League 2 champions in 2016/17, while also being named on the first-team bench on a handful of occasions in the absence of either Maarten Stekelenburg or Joel Robles.

He then moved onto Miedź Legnica, where he would grab a last-gasp equaliser against Chrobry Głogów in a 2-2 affair.

Hewelt has previously featured in the Northern Premier League - having fared for Bamber Bridge and more recently Stafford Rangers.

“I’m buzzing, very happy to be here and I’m looking forward getting going," he said.

"The club is very ambitious and the gaffers have shown me what the plans are and how high we want to go.

"Hopefully I can bring with me some experience, the obvious goalkeeper traits like good kicking and keeping the ball out of the net.

"I know the league from previous loan spells and I understand what it takes to be up there and competing every week.

"I’m looking forward to getting another taste of it here at Radcliffe.”
