Raiders strike hours after weekend win

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Frickley Athletic have condemned thieves and vandals who raided Westfield Lane on Saturday night hours after their 2-0 victory over Nantwich Town.

Instead of celebrating their Premier Division win over the Dabbers on Sunday, Blues officials were starting the clear-up at the ground's Bigfellas Clubhouse after it was broken into and ransacked.

As well as causing a substantial amount of damage, the thieves stole the clubhouse TV and a significant amount of stock.

Frickley Athletic Secretary Steve Pennock said the whole club was "bitterly disappointed" and hopes anyone with any information about the raid will contact the West Yorkshire Police to help them catch the culprits.

He said: "This comes as a severe blow to everyone who puts a lot of their own free time and effort into the running of the club and who have more than enough to do without having to put up with mindless vandalism such as this.

"To make matters worse the ground has suffered badly from the recent bad weather with some fencing and part of the covered Frank Hill Stand being damaged by the strong winds."
