Rams at home for Ammies

By David Watters

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Salford City will host Derby County in the third round of the FA Cup if they can overcome Hartlepool United.

After drawing 1-1 with the League Two club at Moor Lane in front of millions watching Friday's second round clash live on the BBC, the Ammies were handed the carrot of another home tie against a Championship club in Monday night's draw for the FA Cup Third Round on BBC 2 and BBC 5 Live.

The Premier Division club hit the TV jackpot for the second round in a row at the weekend and will be hoping to feature again as the lowest ranked side left in the competition if they can emulate the famous giant-killing Blyth Spartans pulled off at Victoria Park last season in next Tuesday night's replay (Dec 15).

After earning a £67,500 live broadcast fee from the BBC for their televised 2-0 win over Notts County in the first round proper - watched by a peak audience of 3.5 million - the Ammies scooped an additional £72,000 live fee after the BBC chose to return to Moor Lane. They'll also add a further £27,500 in prize money if they go on to host Derby.

A Steve O'Halloran first half equaliser earned the Ammies a place in Monday's draw after Rhys Oates scored from the spot in front of a packed out Moor Lane.

Northwich Victoria, 2-0 up at Northampton Town before two late second half goals and a last gasp winner broke their hearts, missed out on the chance to host MK Dons. Stourbridge's 2-0 loss at home to National League Eastleigh on Saturday cost them a home tie with Bolton Wanderers.
